What to Expect During Demolition

People may hire demolition services for a wide variety of reasons. Whether you want to get rid of an entire structure on your property – such as a garage or house – or simply to open up a room in your living area, ABH Services is here with trained professionals and fair rates.

The idea of using demolition services may make some people nervous, because they don’t know what to expect. Below are a few pieces of advice to make sure things go smoothly, both on demolition day and beforehand, so you can feel ready to take the next step when it comes to your property.

First, if you still have a mortgage on your house or property, you may be required to contact the bank or whoever gave you the loan in order to let them know that you have hired demolition services. They may want to give their seal of approval before you proceed.

Next, think about what you have around the area that you are hiring demolition services for, and plan accordingly. We will always do what we can to protect the area around which we are performing the demolition, but it’s never a good idea to leave furniture or other items that can be removed nearby. Similarly, you’ll want to shut off or remove your utilities during this process; we want to stay safe while doing the job, and we don’t want to cause any unnecessary damage, either. Having running water, electricity, gas, or other utilities is never a good idea.

Before we begin actually demolishing a building or an area, it is always a good idea to think through what within the structure might actually be worth saving. From glass to wood to light fixtures to the nails in the floor, there are so many parts of the house that can be sold, recycled, or donated, at varying levels of value. It’s definitely worth doing some research and considering what level of effort you are willing to go to in order to give some of these materials a second life.

Finally, it may be a good idea to let neighbors know when the demolition will be taking place. Depending on the project and the area in which you live, there may be a lot of loud noise and dust that is not going to stop right at your property line. If you foresee this being an issue, the courteous thing to do is give them a heads up, so that they can be away from home or at least purchase some noise-canceling headphones during this time!

The process of demolishing a structure can be a complicated one, and we are sure that you will have more questions if this is something you decide to go through with.
