When Demolition Services Send You Running for Cover

Demolition services actually sound pretty cool.  Get the sledgehammers out, right?  Unfortunately, we can’t plunge into demolition without a plan. There IS a science to this kind of work.  It’s not all power tools and jackhammers.  And, since you’re bound to rebuild on the land once occupied by the previous structure you want to do it right. There’s a distinction between demolition and deconstruction of a structure.  Demolition specialists engineer the SAFE take down of buildings such as a house.  No one is going to blast the place to smithereens or at least they shouldn’t.  That might seem fun and fast, but not realistic. While demolition destroys a structure, deconstruction picks a building apart.  The goal here is to SAVE materials for reuse.  It’s more like “unbuilding” or picking over the remains of something. Think of it as taking a building apart piece-by-high-value-piece.

Why would you want demolition services?

You may need to demolish a house or part of it if you find a termite or carpenter-ant infestation. These kinds of bugs enjoy munching wood.  They can devour your porch steps, door frames or support beams in no time.

Want to remodel your kitchen or bathroom?

A kitchen or bathroom remodel is a controlled interior demolition.  No one is smashing everything in sight since it isn’t necessary and you still want the joy of using those spaces. With kitchen remodels you’ll want cabinets and counter tops removed. There also needs to be a plan to dispose of materials or reuse them.

If you own a business and want to expand, ABH Services can assist you.  ABH Services checks your space and works with you to determine a cost effective plan of action.

Speaking of COSTS….

If you plan to raze your house and completely remove its existence, it can come with a hefty price tag.  According to Thumbtack it cost between $3,000 and $35,000 to demolish a house.

It can be very expensive, but then consider the costs involved…

  • location
  • a partial or complete take down
  • outbuildings (e.g., a greenhouse or a large tool shed)
  • dump fees

Keep in mind permits from your city or county are necessary.  It’s sometimes challenging to do what you will with your home. The city or county likes knowing what you’re doing so they can assess fees.  The permitting process does take time before you’ll get a thumbs up to proceed. Once demolition is underway some items removed will head to a landfill.  That’s not terrific since the materials could be toxic to the environment.

Whenever possible reuse materials such as ….

  • lighting fixtures
  • appliances
  • cabinets

You’ll need a plan for this kind of project. Demolishing a structure can be a big job. We want to make it stress free and help execute your vision so you enjoy a successful experience.
